Our Story

Who We Are

The Period Place is a charity dedicated to providing the education of menstrual health and wellbeing, creating awareness about positive periods and lifestyle. Disabuse the stigma around periods, support overall and emotional wellbeing whilst providing individuals with safe and hygienic period products and services to tackle period poverty.

We create a safe space for conversations about periods, where people can get support around periods.

Our approach includes empowering people with knowledge to live healthier lives through campaigns, services, workshops, walks and summits on intimate hygiene and overall wellbeing.

Our Why

Period poverty is a pressing concern that affects countless girls and young women across our community. Stigmatization, lack of proper education, awareness and affordability of period products are integral parts of period poverty. A sample survey by Young Scot found that about 10% of girls in the UK have been unable to afford period products; 15% have struggled to afford them; and 19% have changed to a less suitable product due to cost.

Periods have been shrouded in secrecy with most cultures treating it as a taboo topic. This natural phenomenon often arises with a plethora of physical and mental health issues, some of these issues include depression and anxiety that overlap with Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS). The inability to afford or access menstrual products can lead to missed school days, lowered self-esteem, and hindered opportunities for these young individuals.

That is why here at The Period Place, we are not ashamed to speak about periods and we are keen to support our community to overcome these challenges.

Our Vision

To create a safe and supportive environment that empowers women and girls with period education and products tackling period poverty.

Our Mission

To continually promote the education and awareness of periods and disabuse the stigma around periods, whilst providing young girls and women with safe and hygienic period products to tackle period poverty.

Our Journey So Far

The Period Place, now a charity, started out as a CIC.  For almost four years now, we have supported and taught over 17,000 girls through our books and campaigns. Over the last two years, we have also supported hundreds of parents including single dads through our monthly virtual free period clinics. Helping parents have periods conversations with their girls, taking away anxiety and building better relations with their daughters all have a major impact on a girl’s self-worth, attendance at school and participation in extra-curricular activities.

The charity is run with the help of volunteers.
